I never thought I'd be drawn (pardon the pun) to paint sand. But then, I never used to look at sand quite the way I do now. In the past sand was, well, just sand. Recently though, I look at sand in a whole new way. Now when I look at sand I see truly amazing textures, colors and patterns making it as beautiful as a tree or mountain. In this particular image, I was intrigued with the rich blues and browns of the swirling patterns caused by the tide. It takes on an abstract feel even though the painting is a very close approximation of the original image. A Sioux Shaman told me he saw many things in the painting including a dove, a squirrel and other animals. Once he pointed them out to me, I too saw them...but admittedly I did not consciously include them.
