The view of Mt. Rainier from Gig Harbor on a clear day is always breathtaking, but during a colorful sunset the mountain glows with warm color and the harbor takes on an ethereal quality that is simply transcending. It's when nature seems to break the rules and go red-light; painting the earth in gaudy red hues and adorning it with lavish gold just to have a bit of fun before it finally rests for the evening. On such glorious evenings I will stand at the water's edge until dark trying to literally absorb and memorize the final scene unfolding before me. It isn't until the sun has finally set, that I realize that only an idiot would stand outside nearly motionless for almost an hour in the freezing cold!
