This old boat washed up on the beach in Gig Harbor and sat (or lay) just to the south of the boat launch on the East side of the harbor. From what I understand it was picked pretty clean by scavengers after this picture was taken until the coast guard finally hauled it away. It is hard to believe that anyone can lose a boat - or more likely in this case abandon one. But I guess from what I've heard about the cost of "keeping a boat" it is understandable. I'm afraid that when I finally break down and buy my own boat it won't look much better than this one…in fact, I thought about claiming this one for my own but then I realized that I didn't know how to sail. From what I've heard from old salts though, that apparently doesn't stop most new boat owners anyway. Maybe I'll take a couple of boating classes first…just so I know the difference between port and left (just kidding!).
